Mosquitoes Treatment
Across the Front Range.

Backyard barrier treatments + standing water elimination across Colorado summers.

Mosquitoes

Mosquitoes are the difference between using your backyard in July and not using it. EPC's mosquito service does two things at once: knock down the active adult population and eliminate the standing-water sources where they breed.

Single-treatment service for events and weddings; recurring biweekly or monthly service for the season.

About Mosquitoes

Several mosquito species are active in Colorado, with Culex (West Nile vector) and Aedes (day-biters) most common. Females lay 100–300 eggs per batch in standing water. Eggs hatch in 2 days, larvae develop in 4–14 days, and adults live 2–3 weeks. Females need a blood meal to lay eggs; males never bite.

Signs You Have Mosquitoes

  • Visible mosquito activity at dawn and dusk
  • Whining or buzzing around your head outdoors
  • Itchy welts after time in the yard
  • High counts standing in shaded vegetation
  • Larvae visible in standing water (planters, gutters, birdbaths, pool covers)

How EPC Treats Mosquitoes

Backyard Barrier Spray

Residual treatment applied to vegetation, fence lines, and resting areas. Kills adults on contact and provides 21–28 days of residual control.

Larvicide for Standing Water

Bti-based larvicide applied to standing water sources that can't be eliminated — pond features, low spots, drainage swales. Kills larvae before they emerge as adults.

Source Reduction Walk-Through

Tech walks the property identifying breeding sources — clogged gutters, plant saucers, tarp wrinkles, kid toys, low spots, dog water bowls. Removing breeding water is the most effective long-term control.

Event Service

Single-application treatment 24–48 hours before outdoor events. Knocks down adult populations for 2–3 weeks of clean enjoyment.

How to Prevent Mosquitoes

  • Empty any container holding water for more than 5 days (planters, buckets, kids' pools)
  • Clean gutters in spring and fall — clogged gutters are major breeding sites
  • Drain or treat ornamental ponds, fountains without circulating pumps
  • Replace outdoor water (birdbath, pet bowl) every 3–4 days
  • Repair window screens and door sweeps; mosquitoes come indoors through tiny gaps

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a mosquito treatment last?

Backyard barrier sprays provide 21–28 days of control. Most clients book monthly service through summer; some do biweekly during peak July–August.

Are mosquito treatments safe for kids and pets?

Yes after the spray dries (usually 30 minutes). We use EPA-registered products at label rates and avoid kids' toys, vegetable gardens, and pet bowls.

Do mosquito candles or coils actually work?

Marginally and only at the candle. Citronella and pyrethroid coils repel mosquitoes within a few feet — not across the yard.

Will treatment affect my pollinators?

We treat resting habitat (vegetation, fence lines) and avoid blooming flowers. Application is timed for early morning or evening when bees aren't active.
